Week One Review

The South Island Royals split their first home stand this weekend. They played the Vancouver NE Chiefs in an electric Pearkes Arena Friday night. The game was fast, physical, and challenging for both teams. The score was tight until the very end. The Royals prevailed for a 4-2 win in their home opener. The second game was not as successful as the first for South Island. They ended up suffering their first loss of the 2018-2019 Season. The final score was 4-0 for the Chiefs. The Royals look to build on this weekend as they head to trail for a series against the Kootenay Ice.

Royalty Was Born

This weekend was full of excitement for the pair of South Island Royal teams that travelled to Abbotsford. The Fraser Valley Thunderbirds hosted a pre-season jamboree for a combination of four major, and minor midget teams. Both Royals teams started the weekend with unbelievably close games. They were able to hold onto their leads and successfully earn their first wins of the season.  Victory was a theme for the major midgets on Saturday. In their second match they beat the Vancouver North West Hawks, 5-2. Unfortunately for the minor midgets, they succumbed 3-1 to the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds. The minor program ended up going 1-1-1 for the weekend. The majors finished 2-1. A successful weekend that led to two teams being formed. It was great to have the opportunity to compete before the 2018/2019 season officially begins.
