Royals Split at Showcase

The Royals traveled to the BCMML Showcase in Kelowna to take on first place Fraser Valley Thunderbirds. Game 1 took place on Saturday February 2nd. Royals scored first,  when Quddus Kalyan went hard to the front of the net. Then Fraser Valley took advantage of the Powerplays. The TBirds finished the game with 4 PowerPlay goals to take the game with a 7-2 win. Chase Klassen added a goal midway through the 3rd, assists went to Tyson Johnston and Ethan Brandwood.

 

Sunday was a much different story. The Royals came out strong again scoring first. The coaches made minor adjustments to the PK and shut down the high-flying Fraser Valley power play. Ty Gibson opened the scoring with 52 seconds left in the 1st, assists to Michael Hoekstra and Ethan Brandwood. The Royals had a 2-1 lead going into the third, and with a great team effort they held on to earn a very needed 2 points. Game winning goal goes to Carson Strom with a wraparound assisted by Hoesktra and Klassen. Brendan Forman was a rock for the Royals on Sunday morning, making key saves at the right times and only letting 1 goal in when the push came from the Tbirds.
