4 Games, 3 Cities in 9 Days
The Royals split the weekend series Vs North Island and Cariboo over the past 2 weeks. Saturday’s home game on February 9th was a barn burner. Royals scored first to take the lead thanks to Sdrakas, from Barlow and Hicks.
Second period was back and forth with no scoring.
Fikowski finally found the back of the net for the Royals at the start of the 3rd period, assist to Tyson Johnston. The two-goal lead was short lived as the Silvertips scored less than a minute later to make it 2-1. Then another quick Silvertips goal, tied it up with 3 minutes to play.
Hemmingway took a penalty with just over 2 minutes to play, putting the Royals on the Powerplay. Brandwood, a Kamloops Blazers signed prospect, took a shot off the rush and the rebound went right to Pollock who made no mistake with a slapshot from the slot. Royals ended up winning 4-2, Kaylan added an empty net goal.
On the following Thursday the Royals traveled to Frank Crane arena to finish the weekend series Vs the Silvertips. The Royals were without Everett Silvertips signed prospect Ty Gibson as he is currently with Team BC at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, AB.
The Tips scored first and carried the lead into the 2nd period. With 6 minutes to go in the second period the tips scored to take a 2-0 lead. The next shift Barlow made a heads up play to Vela, who skated in and scored to bring the Royals within one.
With three minutes to go in the 3rd Vela scored again from Barlow and Malay to tie things up going into the 3rd. In the 3rd period, the Royals found themselves in penalty trouble and the tips capitalized to take the game 5-2.
After Thursday’s game, the Royals traveled to Prince George to face the Cariboo Cougars. Saturday’s game was all Cariboo, with the loan bright spot coming from Liam Hicks end to end rush getting the Royals on the board. This would make no difference as the Cougars took the game 8-1.
Sunday was a different story. The Royals were able to get back into the win column with a hard-fought team win. 45 seconds into the first Booker Daniels was able to get in alone and scored on Forman to give Cariboo the early 1-0 lead.
With two minutes to go in the first Aleko Sdrakas was able to make a great play stripping the Cariboo D man of the puck to get his 3rd of the season to tie things up. Less than 30 seconds later, Michael Hoekstra recieved a slip pass from Simon Pollock to put the Royals up 2-1 going into the 2nd.
The second period was end to end but no scoring.
Cariboo would tie things up with 8 minutes to go in the 3rd with a goal from Marotta, his first of the season. With just over 7 minutes to go, Carbioo took a penalty and the Royals were able to take advantage. Jovan Malay made a great pass to Hicks, and Quddus Kalyan was able to tip in the point shot from Hicks to give the Royals a 3-2 lead with 6 minutes to play.
The Royals held off the push from Cariboo to get their 10th win of the season. Brendan Forman got the win.
The Royals will travel to Kamloops this weekend to play a weekend set against the Thompson Blazers.
